Re-Refining Oil is good for the Environment and the Economy!
Re-Refining is the only way to state that the oil is "Recycled". Many claim to be in the oil recycling business; but their process, that may involve filtering, blending and distillation of used oil, is not a complete re-refining process like the unique Evergreen method that includes hydro-treatment to produce a high quality, pure colorless & odorless base oil.
- 1 gallon of used oil produces 3 quarts of refined lubricating oil
- Re-refining is energy efficient -- less energy is used to produce a gallon of base stock from used oil than to produce the same gallon from crude oil
- Re-refined oil prices are competitive to equivalent virgin oil prices
Everyone can take part in Preserving our Resources,
Protecting the Environment and Improving the Economy. |
Did You know?
- If the oil generated by all of the do-it-yourself oil changers in America were collected and re-refined, it would provide enough motor oil for over 50 million cars each year. This would:
- Reduce our dependence on imported oil
- Help reduce our trade deficit
- Provide American jobs
- Be environmentally friendly
- In California alone, over 120 million gallons of used oil were recycled in 2006. However 20 million gallons of used motor oil is disposed of each year in an unknown manner by do-it-yourself oil changers. This equals nearly 1 gallon of improperly disposed used oil for every adult Californian.
- Don't pour it down the drain or on the ground, there are more than 2700 state certified collection centers and 70 curbside collection programs, which accept used oil for free.
- Used oil can foul sewage treatment processes.
- Oil dumped on the land reduces soil productivity.
- Oil from a single oil change can ruin the taste of a million gallons of drinking water.
- German automobile manufacturers endorse the use of re-refined oil in new cars.
- Re-Refined oils that meet the American Petroleum Institute (API) Standards also meet warranty requirements for new automobiles.
- The United States Post Office, the National Parks Service, and the Government of the State of California use re-refined oil in their vehicles fleets.
- The Department of Defense compared making lube oils from virgin base oil against used oil and determined using used oil was both more environmentally friendly and cost-effective.
- The U.S. Conference of Mayors has endorsed Re-Refined oil.
- Countries all over the world, including South Africa, Israel, Pakistan, India, Canada, Great Britain, France, Italy, and New Zealand re-refine a larger percentage of their used oil into lubricating oil base stocks than the U.S.
- Of the over 1.3 billion gallons of used oils (industrial and lubricating) generated each year in the U.S. less than 10% is Re-Refined. Crankcase oil accounts for more than 40% of the total oil pollution of the nation’s harbors and waterways.
- Compared to making lube oil from crude oil, it takes only half as much energy to make it from used oil with Evergreen's Re-Refining process, while the lube oil produced is of equal or better quality, and the carbon footprint from this process is even less.
