The Drain Oil Re-Refining Process
Although re-refining is recycling in the technical sense, it should not be confused with the standard processes used by most oil recyclers and those doing waste consolidation. Evergreen has developed a proprietary six step process of drain oil re-refining. Most companies simply filter and treat the waste products they receive. At Evergreen, we are able to reclaim the valuable lube oil from waste. Crude lube oil typically has a lube content of about 14% (standard crude's lube content is about one-third of this). Used automotive oil has a recoverable lube content of about 65%. It is actually more energy efficient to use our process than to refine crude lube. After completing the six steps, the re-refined oil is every bit as useful as virgin lube. In fact, it meets the American Petroleum Institute Standards. The Evergreen process can be summarized as:
- Pre-treatment
- Water and light fraction removal
- Fuel fraction separation
- Separation of lube fraction (distillation)
- Conversion of lube to base stock
- Fractionation into desired base cuts
Uses For Re-Refined Oil
The final product of our process is every bit as useful as virgin lube. The lube created from drain oil re-refining is also comparable in cost. However, our process yields more than the lube stock. Fuel oil and asphalt flux are also created by the Evergreen process. Obviously, this is an incredible way to maximize the use of automotive lube oil. In addition to the added value created by the continued used of the re-refined oil, there are other benefits. Increased use of this reclaimed resource will reduce the American dependence on foreign oil supplies. Also, less energy is required to create a re-refined gallon of oil than to refine from crude. The Department of Defense recently determined that using lube oils that had been re-refined was not only more environmentally friendly but also more cost effective than creating the same products from crude. This is an important process that benefits everyone. Contact Evergreen today to learn how you can take advantage of our re-refined oils.
